How does the silver double long EFT work? How does it double your gains in silver and is backed by silver?

Leverage & futures.

The fund invests in the futures market rather than physical silver, using the leverage in the marketplace to double the bet on a short term gain in silver.

If you use any leveraged ETF (usually unwise for the non-pro), you should be very sure you understand how it works. In my opinion — always humble! — you should download a copy of the prospectus and read it cover to cover. If you can’t get through it or understand it all, you shouldn’t invest in it.

The trick of leveraged ETFs have to do with the use of the futures market. Generically, you or I would go double long “naturally” in a very different way: We would borrow money to buy twice as much silver or buy long dated futures contracts. Most of these funds buy short dated (daily) futures contracts. The end result is something very different — performance wise — than the retail investor expects.
